Crowley Maritime Expands Box Fleet
March 24, 2008

Crowley Maritime’s liner services group plans to acquire more than 1,500 new containers and related cargo-handling units this year.

The order includes 50 45-foot containers with recycled, composite material floors made by Singamas, a more environmentally friendly choice than traditional wood floors, the company said. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Crowley added that the manufacturer touts the recycled material as tougher and more resilient than wood, resistant to water, mold and corrosion, and decay-proof.

In all, Crowley will acquire 600 45-foot dry containers; 600 45-foot chassis; 120 40-foot high-cube and 40 20-foot standard refrigerated containers; 150 45-foot flatbed trailers; 50 roll-on, roll-off mafi trailers; and 274 generator sets.

The company currently owns and leases more than 49,000 pieces of specialized equipment, including 20,394 chassis, 18,280 dry containers and more than 3,000 refrigerated containers.
